Adam Richmond Sports and Remedial Therapist at The Lace Market Clinic, Nottingham.

What to expect on your first visit.

History...
I will take a detailed account of your medical history, general health and details of your condition and symptoms.

Consultation...
I will discuss this history with you to gain a full picture of your condition, lifestyle and general wellbeing.

Assessment...
If I believe Remedial Sports massage may be appropriate I will ask you to perform a series of active and passive movements and tests. This enables me to identify any areas of restricted movement. Please note you will be required to dress down to your underwear for this purpose. Some clients may prefer to bring a pair of shorts and (females) a crop top for this purpose.

Findings...
We will discuss the findings of your assessment and formulate a treatment plan.  I use a patient centred approach which ensures the treatment is geared towards your individual needs.

Treatment...
Assuming it is appropriate I will proceed to treatment on your first visit. I use a variety of deep tissue massage and joint mobilisation techniques to promote movement and encourage increased range of motion and relaxation of muscles. Again I will generally require you to be dressed down to your underwear for this purpose but I can work through thin clothing if required.

Aftercare...
I will review the treatment and discuss a progressive plan with you, giving recommendations on the number of visits you will need and your anticipated recovery time. Finally a maintenance program will be discussed giving you an active role in your own recovery.
